Michael and the Pursuit of the IC Worlds
While enjoying the Saturday night festivities at Richmond YC’s Great Pumpkin Regatta, we caught up with teenage sailor Michael Radziejowski, whom we quoted earlier on this page. Michael started sailing at age 13 and latched onto it like some kids take to candy. A year or so ago, a friend gave him an International Canoe, the funny-looking skinny dinghy with the sliding board. He did a few races with it, got a better one, and really got hooked.
Now Michael hopes to go to the IC Worlds in Australia, coming up quick at New Year’s, and the only thing that stands in his way is money - the lack of it. Richmond YC will sponsor him to the tune of $2,000, which will pay for a container and shipping for the boat. What remains to be paid for is a plane ticket for Michael himself, and those seem to be running $1,500 to $2,300 depending on which day you search the Internet. If any generous individuals or organizations would like to contribute to help Michael reach his goal, he can be contacted by email. You can learn more about his IC Worlds campaign at his blog at mikeyradz.blogspot.com.
