BOB in NorCal High School Championships

March 31, 2010

Last weekend 19 teams raced in the NorCal High School Championships on CFJs out of St. Francis YC. Each team brought two boats, one for Division A and one for Division B. They sailed on the Cityfront, which we know can be the windiest part of the Bay. Perhaps an unexpected gust or a ferry wake on Sunday caused this man overboard situation. (Or, more accurately, Boy Over Board.) Sergei Zavarin took this sequence of his calm rescue by a coach boat and his return to his own boat.

The pair continued on to race; as a matter of fact, the photo at the top of the page was taken after the overboard sequence. They are second from the left of the screen in that shot.

Menlo Atherton went on to win the regatta. Their A Division boat with Chloe Lepert and Avery Plough came in second to Redwood 1's Annie Schmidt and Ashley Lin alternating with Robbie Horton. Their B Division crew, Mike Deady
and Chris Ford, beat Redwood 2's Scotty Buckstaff and Afton Wight. (Redwood High School had two teams.) See www.stfyc.com.
