Berkeley Champion of Champions

February 28, 2011

On Sunday, February 27, Berkeley Yacht Club held its annual Champion of Champions, aka Winners Race. There are three divisions: the White, the Blue and the Red. The Red Division is a contest of all the first place winners of the 2010-11 BYC Midwinters Series. The Blue division consists of all second places and the White division has all the thirds and fourths. In other words, anyone that won a trophy got to go sailing again.

Of the 34 invitees, 21 showed up to enjoy sunshine, chilly temperatures and a nice little breeze that naturally shifted 90 degrees after the starts. (When will we be able to actually predict this shift? Sigh...)

The winner of the Red division and thus added to the 30 other names on the Kirt Brooks perpetual trophy was El Raton, Ray Lotto's Express 27. Only two seconds behind was the winner of the past two years, Richard Von Ehrehkrook's Cal 20, Can O' Whoopass. Close racing!
