Rolex Big Boat Series Day 1

September 8, 2011

The first day of the 2011 Rolex Big Boat Series is in the books. The San Francisco fog threatened to clear out, but failed to follow through. The dependable westerly built during the day. Out-of-towners and locals alike shivered in the chilly San Francisco summer weather. Race 1 ended with almost 20 knots of wind, with Race 2 featuring 22+ knots. Some who used #1 jibs for Race 1 regretted it during the last upwind leg and switched down to a #3 for the second race.

Several divisions are tied for points: Swiftsure II and TNT in IRC B, Blackhawk and Donkey Jack in J/105s, and, in Express 37s, Expeditious and Golden Moon. The J/120s actually have three boats with four points each: Chance, Desdemona and Mr. Magoo. Results so far and more are available at www.rolexbigboatseries.com. Also see our previous report.
