Singlehanded Farallones Race

April 30, 2012

The Singlehanded Sailing Society boys and girls are getting antsy about the Coast Guard "taking a break" from ocean racing, affecting the Singlehanded Farallones Race on the calendar for May 12. Some are proposing a cruise around the island as a tune-up for the Singlehanded TransPac in June. SSS Commodore Max Crittenden and the board discussed swapping the Farallones and the Richmond/South Beach Race dates but that has been nixed. (It's hard to re-book a race date as most of the weekends are full already.)

"We've just decided," emailed Max this afternoon, "on May 12 we'll have a bonus race for singlehanders only: GGYC-Pt. Bonita-San Mateo Bridge-GGYC. We already have the RC recruited, and we have the GGYC race deck. The Singlehanded Farallones will be July 28." Update: August 4 is the new likely date for the Farallones.

May 12's race will be counter for singlehanders (but with two throw-outs for the singlehanded season) and has been named the Stand Down Marathon. The skippers' meeting will be on Wednesday, May 9, at Oakland YC. See www.sfbaysss.org.
