Friday Night Recipe

April 21, 2013

Friday night's beer can race at Corinthian Yacht Club, the first of the season, had all the ingredients of a delicious CYC Friday night race:

1. A diverse fleet of PHRF boats.
2. A strong current, in this case, flood.
3. A heavily favored pin end. Really, really favored. It's much closer to the first mark, and besides the other end of the startline is past a mooring field, past the lower deck of the yacht club, and affixed to the railing of the upper deck.
4. Really fabulous scenery. Really, really fabulous. We're so lucky!
5. Enough wind in the Slot to prompt the use of #3 jibs on some boats.
6. Not enough wind back in Tiburon. Spinnakers or #1 jibs? Use 'em if you've got 'em.
7. A pile-up at Elephant Rock, where the wind and the reverse current along the shore were both lackadaisical.
8. A lively shoreside party, including live steel drum music, drink specials, and new low-cost menu choices.
9. New barware for all podium finishers after the race.

10. Mix and repeat from now until the end of August!

The season is divided into two series, and each gets two throw-outs, so it's not too late to sign up and still finish 'in the money'. See www.cyc.org.
