Hamsters on a Wheel

December 2, 2013

The second race in Sausalito Yacht Club's Midwinter Series went off with three bangs on Sunday, the first of December. In the Knox racing area between Angel Island and the Marin Headlands, a light westerly breeze replaced a light easterly. The westerly tapered off to 2-3 knots – enough to make the waiting racers move forward through the water, but not enough to compensate for the strong, building ebb current that carried the drifting participants towards the Golden Gate.

Near the start line at Little Harding some boats attempted to sail, and were successful in eking out three knots of boat speed, but, like hamsters on a wheel, went nowhwere.

"I want a story about the raging wind and the mountainous seas," exclaimed Pat Broderick of Nancy. We'll get to that in the spring. ©2013 norcalsailing.com
