Back in Good Hands
Last week, we reported that the champion J/105 Good Timin’ was stolen from the San Francisco Marina on the night of Saturday the 10th. By Monday morning, owner Chris Perkins had learned that the boat and the ‘alleged perpetrator’ were safe and sound in Half Moon Bay’s Pillar Point Harbor. Perkins reports that the Coast Guard towed the boat there. “The person aboard was acting unstable, so they came to the closest port to get him ashore. Turns out the guy that took the boat fell in love with it and just wanted to go for a sail. He had a bag of clothes but no food, so I don't think he was planning on going too far. I even heard he left his car in the StFYC parking lot. Once ashore he was escorted off by the San Mateo Sheriff's Department.
“Good Timin’ is basically fine. He ended up throwing the main hatch ladder, engine cover, several small doors, our great Sears Dehu [dehumidifier] and misc. other equipment into Davy Jones' locker. He also started unbolting the engine from the engine mounts for some purpose. The boat received three large piling rubs on the starboard side which may have happened when he was trying to leave the SF Marina in the rainstorm on Saturday night. Nothing that can't be fixed.
“Thanks for all the eyeballs looking for GT. I knew we would find her. You know you are having a bad day when… the Coasties are stomping all over your boat and the Sheriff is tying up your dock lines.”
And we’re glad this fine competitor will get to continue her winning ways. Alas no word yet on the missing artifacts stolen from Tiburon YC. See last week’s report for more on that incident.
